The Inman Aligner is an inexpensive, removable way of correcting crooked teeth. Worn like a retainer, it contains a coil that basically pushes wayward teeth back into position. The aligner works quickly, and can be effective in a matter of weeks.

Inman Aligner

An Inman Aligner can be a less noticeable solution than traditional metal braces for correction of minor orthodontic irregularities.

Developed and brought onto the market around 2000, the Inman Aligner was a game changer in the field of orthodontic treatment. The device has since grown in popularity as many people opt for the use of the device instead of traditional metal wire and bracket braces that are unsightly. Inman Aligners are well-suited for proclining treatments that push leaning teeth forward and retroclining procedures where the teeth are forced to move in a backward direction. Orthodontic relapse in adults – where teeth that have been corrected move back out of place later in life – is another condition that can be aided by the use of Inman Aligners.

Not only is the treatment option provided by Inman Aligners more aesthetically pleasing than braces and aren’t affixed to the teeth, the alternative is also generally less expensive and a faster-acting remedy. In some minor cases, an Inman Aligner can straighten teeth in as few as six weeks.

To do the work that has traditionally been undertaken using metal bracket braces – or more recently Invisalign clear braces – Inman Aligners use a lingual coil spring to apply gentle pressure to teeth that need to be moved or straightened. A labial bar reverses the lingual coil’s affect. The two main components of Inman Aligners work to properly align the teeth by pushing and pulling in concert.

The breaking in, or getting used to, period usually lasts about a week with Inman aligners and the new device may be uncomfortable during this time period. After the adjustment period passes, patients should have no further problems and will soon become completely used to the presence of the device. Don’t be alarmed if, during the initial period, speech is somewhat impaired. This is a normal aspect of the process and isn’t permanent. In fact, after a few days, the patient’s speech should return to normal without intervention.

Because Inman Aligners can be easily removed like a retainer, and are not fixed to the teeth like traditional braces, there is a greater responsibility on the patient to ensure that they are used consistently so that the treatment will have the effect desired. In most cases, Inman Aligner patients should wear the device for up to 20 hours per day. Using the aligner less than that can cause the treatment plan to drag out and take significantly longer to complete. Inman Aligners should never be worn while eating and teeth should be thoroughly cleaned after every meal and before the Inman Aligner is returned to its place in the mouth. It is acceptable to remove the Inman Aligners under special circumstances – photographs for example – but it should not be done for any period of time that extends past several hours.

Aside from the treatment and aesthetic advantages of Inman Aligners, these devices are also generally a less costly treatment option for those who would otherwise be fitted with metal braces or Invisalign. Cost may vary depending on the degree of treatment required and whether or not dental insurance will cover all or part of the procedure.

The Inman Aligner is poised to grow even more in popularity as people discover the fast acting, low-hassle benefits of Inman Aligners for those who want an attractive smile.
